Wakefield’s 22 poorest neighbourhoods based on average income.

Ferret was alarmed and saddened to see an article that has appeared in the Wakefield Express:

Many of us are finding money a struggle as the cost-of-living crisis mounts, but people in some areas of Wakefield are feeling the pinch far more than others.

Some of us will not be shocked by this report but some people will be.

A list of the neighbourhoods in Wakefield with the lowest estimated average annual household income, based on the latest figures published by the Office for National Statistics. (ONS) has been complied.

These are the areas which could be far less able to afford the rocketing cost of food and bills that are increasing day on day.

The ONS breaks Wakefield down into 45 neighbourhoods called Middle-layer Super Output Areas (MSOA).

Total annual household income is the sum of the before-tax income of every member of the household, plus any income from benefits. The estimates were calculated by the ONS using various sources of information, including the 2011 Census and the annual Family Resources Survey.

The highest average income by area, according to the statistics, is £56,600, while the lowest by area is £29,800.

This is one list that this area should not want to be at the head of.

Unfortunately coming in at number one is: Kinsley and Fitzwilliam with Hemsworth placed at number 14.

Ferret hopes that all those people at Hemsworth Town Council that have mismanaged, squandered and wasted so much of our money over the last 4 years hold their heads in shame.

So much money that could and should have been used for the benefit of our community.

Councillors please ask yourselves, is it time to take control and change direction?

Please stop the land sale until you are satisfied the deal is right for this community and not for someone who had brokered it.

The losses at the lakeside bar are not only unsustainable but indefensible, when that money is needed for the betterment of the lives of everyone of our community and not just a relative few who do drink at the bar.

The promised precept reduction by Kenyon and co-councillors of £200,000 from the first year would have been very welcome by all, but what did we actually get, AN INCREASE that has to be paid by cash strapped families.

Thanks and credit to the Wakefield express that have highlighted this appalling and unacceptable situation our community remains in.

Hemsworth Town Council: Do we really need an Alcohol Licence to waste another £400,000 or perhaps some common sense?

  1. The truth hurts as they say and it should be a wake up call to anyone who represents us at both local and district council levels. It shows we should be a priority for funding and not the first call for providing it especially on anything that is proven to be money pit with little to no benefit for our community

  2. How the Independent run HTC must be very proud ,their spend, spend, spend of our communities money on their self indulgent vanity projects as certainly benefited all to the extent we have achieved number 1 in the most poorest deprived communities and a second number 1 at WMDC monitoring office for complaints against HTC what a record how proud you must feel about your 4 year tenure of HTC.
The amount of our money spent and wasted is staggering and what do we have to show for it NOTHING but total decay, destroyed and unfinished facilities that our community can no longer use or enjoy and at a time when the cost of living is crippling most of our community’s parishioners.Let’s not forget either the Independents wanted to forge ahead and spend a massive £80.000 plus on a 1 day Venga Boys concert for themselves how they had planned and organised it all without public consultation and openly stated in a meeting it would get our community noticed ,put us on a map for visitors, well we are on a map HTC Kinsley and Fitzwilliam the poorest ,deprived in WMDC townships well done on your 4 year tenure hope you are proud of your achievements.

  3. Vickie totally agree that it should be a wake up call to the councillors who have fritted, squandered and totally abused the spending of the communities money. The hard working true community councillors have been kept in total darkness about what spending as gone on ,it’s been a private pot to do and spend as the Independents have wanted all without going to full council and let’s not forget the person sole responsible for signing off the vast indulgent amounts spent on legal fees etc the Town Clerk Alan Draper. The good councillors as we can now see are working together and hopefully supporting each other to out vote any further unnecessary spending that’s sent the HTC finances into a shocking mess. The parishioners will have the final say on who runs the HTC and let’s hope the good community councillors have the communities support and VOTES and the free spending ,not caring,do nothing lot are VOTED OUT.
