Ferret was disturbed and dismayed to see that the former allotment site at Fitzwilliam has been put on the market for sale.

Readers will recall Ferret reporting that the previous Chair of the Council, former bankrupt and proven liar Jim Kenyon had held secret meetings with a developer.

He was not accompanied even by the Town Clerk.

It was him who emailed other councillors and the town clerk regarding the meetings.

This was and still is wrong on all levels.

Meetings should have had notes taken and everything discussed should have been fully saved and be available for view.

The Town Council have refused to release any information even under Freedom of Information.

One Councillor, Maxine Hird has stated she did not vote for the sale and the actual vote was for something else.

It has now emerged that during a prolonged sales pitch by the vender he claimed that the land was subjected to ransom access devaluation.

He failed to go into any detail when questioned and told the councillors he would return with full details at a later date.

He has failed to do so and the land has been put up for sale.

This is also incorrect, full Highway access was achieved by Kenyon’s arch enemies, the last Labour council.

The information is documented and even if it has gone missing in the offices of Hemsworth Town Council it will still be available from the Solicitors who were engaged.

It is also very strange that Hemsworth Town Council have put the land up for sale without having any plans for the site drawn and applying for planning permission themselves.

As most people know, the value of land with planning permission is considerably higher than land without planning permission.

Add on top of this a possible reduction in value of up to 30% of the development value than this adds up to hundreds of thousands of pounds that could be diverted from this community into someone else’s pockets.

As a comparison, the Hemsworth Town Council owned land off Kirkby Road Hemsworth was sold for £4.5 million pounds in 2010, during a recession, despite being a former quarry and it did have access ransom restrictions.

Ferret believes due diligence needs to be observed by our Town Councillors.

Ferret hopes that common sense will prevail and the Councillors will block the sale of this community asset until a full investigation has taken place into these irregularities and every other aspect of this sale, to ensure all proper procedures have been followed.

With all the issues that have been raised regarding the conduct of the cabal councillors over the last nearly 4 years, this communities deserves no less.

Ferret believes that it is essential that that the proper value of this land is obtained and seen to be obtained by this community.

How those predictions have come true, run the council down and sell the Assets.

  1. You need to ask why a secret meeting oh yes this is councillor Kenyon the community have woke up and seen just how much is conducted in secrecy. So secret that the Town clerk is excluded and all the good councillors have been kept in the dark.
Wonder who councillor Kenyon as lined up to buy at a rock bottom price only him and those who will put in a rock bottom offer will know. All the good councillors need to have a secret meeting pull together work together STOP anything and everything the cabal will try to do before May otherwise our community will have nothing left but debt, run down facilities ,no waterpark and a council not fit for purpose to serve our community so the clock is ticking ,time is running out and let’s hope the community can get the cabal VOTED OUT.

  2. If this was a secret meeting and is clearly a breach of HTC policy and procedures then why hasn’t the town clerk or others brought this to the attention of the councillors as soon as they was aware of it, or have they ,if it is wrongdoing would any prospective buyers be required to be informed? (I don’t know) .and would any agreement now be annulled.

  3. I’m sorry but I do not understand how the Councillors could vote for the sale. I know Councillor Hird says she voted for something different. I further don’t understand whether this has been reported as potential fraud. Because surely if the land has been put up for sale following secret meetings and with Councillors not in full agreement, something is very much amiss? Regards
