Ferret has previously posted about the role of Head of Security at Independent Hemsworth Town Council.

A job which seemingly was created by Mr Jim Kenyon specifically for the current post holder Samantha Knowles.

A position which was only advertised on the Town Council website for a very short period of time and with only one applicant, Samantha Knowles.

A job which came with free rent on a four bedroomed flat at Hemsworth Water Park.

A flat which you paid to be redecorated, re carpeted, some soft furnishings and let’s not forget the echo dot.

Ferret has been provided with a “job description” dated February 2022 for this position which now has the title of GENERAL MANAGER.


The General Manager has an extensive remit of duties including:

The purpose of the job and its primary objectives:

To manage the staff, resources and facilities at Hemsworth Water Park (including the café bar) and to maintain the day to day security of Hemsworth Town Council service provision sites, their staff and visitors, and to assist in the promotion and delivery of services.

The main duties of the post:

  • Secure premises and personnel by patrolling property; monitoring surveillance equipment; inspecting buildings, equipment and access points; permitting entry
  • Prevent losses and damage by reporting irregularities, informing violators of policy and procedures; restraining trespassers
  • Control traffic by directing drivers
  • Complete reports by recording observations, information, occurrences and surveillance activities; interviewing witnesses; obtaining signatures
  • Maintain environment by monitoring and setting building and equipment controls
  • Maintain organisation’s stability and reputation by complying with legal requirements
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
  • Ensure the security, safety and well-being of all personnel, visitors and the premises.
  • The Security Officer will demonstrate their character as determined, trustworthy, attentive and approachable at all times when welcoming clients and customers.
  • As the first point of contact to all customers and clients, the Security Officer must have geographical awareness of their local surroundings.
  • The Security Officer will need to travel to various sites and locations where necessary, within the Town Council’s service provision, therefore driving license is essential.
  • Must be able to effectively manage the phones, e-mails, IT systems, CCTV, alarms and radio controls.
  • To be fully conversant with all on site procedures on accordance with assignment instructions and company policies.
  • The Security Officer must spot and stop all suspicious sightings or potential criminal activity and retain full control until the arrival of the emergency services.
  • Asset protection.
  • The Security Officer should be able to work on their own initiative and support the fulfilment of the contracted/business objectives, through the range of duty assignments which will involve security and support duties.

  • Admin most aspects /clerical work / website / social media
  • Ground staff duties / Maintenance
  • Bar & serving / table clearing / emptying bins
  • Key holder
  • Licensed driver of most of our machines.
  • Site inspections – Reports, Meetings / Liaising
  • Defibrillator Guardian
  • Security /crime prevention / fly tipping / illegal fisherman / night security / securing sites
  • Licensed CCTV operator / monitoring
  • Tills
  • Orders / Stock
  • Staffing / rotas
  • Oversee daily business activities across all sites, improving overall business functions, training, and liaising with site managers, developing strategic plans, creating policies, and communicating business goals, PR.
  • Playing an integral part in overseeing managers’ duties and to facilitate the managers’ potential & reach goals by offering full support.
  • To uphold the council’s expectations & standards.
  • To check daily operations, banking been done, sites open, maintenance works carried out, staffing.
  • PR, whilst promoting best interest for the Council
  • Highlight to the town clerk any concerns / observations – reports.
  • Maintain Security aspect whilst fulfilling overall duties required as general manager.

Ferret believes that a number of these were previously carried out by the Deputy Clerk at Hemsworth Town Council.

Could it be possible that Mr Jim Kenyon and Independent Hemsworth Town Council have promoted Samantha Knowles once again?

  1. Looks like a promotion by stealth definitely, and salary to go with it no doubt. It’s a complete joke impossible for one person to fulfill this role.

  2. All this lunacy needs to end now! HTC appears to have employed a security super woman. Of course it’s all rubbish, and part of the grift. It will need a complete clear out and reorganisation by the time Brittas has gone, And that needs to be sooner rather than later before the damage is terminal.
