Ferret is aware that Independent Hemsworth Town Council Councillors made promises in their manifesto prior to being elected regarding improvements they would make to the fishing lakes at Hemsworth Water Park.

This promise, like most of their others has yet to materialise. In the recent Newsletter sent out by Independent Hemsworth Town Council under their “Achievements” they state:

So maybe, Ferret thought, they might be finally planning to fulfill their promise over two years since making it.

In recent Council meetings when this has been discussed, Mr Kenyon – Chair Independent Hemsworth Town Council has stated on a number of occasions that quotes for these improvements come in at around £120,000.

Ferret has been informed that one of the companies which has tendered INTENDS TO TENDER for the work is:

This is a recently set up company with no accounts as yet filed with Companies House.

Ferret looked into this company a little bit further and found a huge coincidence:

Councillors Jean and Gordon Eccles own the business – What a stroke of luck for Independent Hemsworth Town Council…

  1. Don’t tell me your surprised with this
A company that advises businesses on their energy and saving money of course can drain and clear a pond
Same as their other company which is a letting agency for houses and businesses can supply over £600 of table/chairs and kitchen appliances
Lots of fingers in pies this lot
Remember where they accused the last council of this kind of thing
Well it seems it was really was just a warning to what they were going to do
The question that not many people are actually asking but they should be is
WHY is Jean Eccles running that waterpark like it’s her own business
Councillors should not be involved or give orders in the day to day running of businesses
So Mrs Eccles Mr kenyon WHY are you

  2. It just get worse all the time, have these people no shame or conscience, I would put nothing past them, our money looks to be there just to fill their pockets.

  3. Wow, it’s the swamp that needs draining, not the ponds. All this needs stopping now!

  4. So HTC want this work doing and then hey presto, Eccles sets up a business to do the actual work? No no no!!!!!!
The accused the other council if fiddling, this is really taking the Michael!
It should be In council rules that NO councillor can’t benefit. He’s already had a car park relaid, what else have they had done that we don’t know about? Was it their business who did the work on the WP?
    WE NEED THEM OUT NOW!!!!

  5. In the town council meeting held on the 14th October 2021 – minutes available to view online
Item 255 ( b) quote for removal of Algae from lakes.
Shouldn’t the councillors have declared this item declaration of interest and left the room when the vote was made, if they had submitted a quote. Because according to the minutes this didn’t happen.

  6. Has the work gone out to tender? If it as then the council are not obliged to accept either the highest or lowest tender or for that matter from two councillor’s who have a conflict of interest in the process. Officially those two councillor’s should absent themselves from the process and the rest of the council scrutinise all the tenders without prejudice or favour. Under normal circumstances this is what would happen but hey it’s HTC we’re dealing with here. Scrutiny, diligence, honesty, is what is required from councillor’s whom call themselves independent if this is the case and any of you are reading this then apply the above and don’t once again nod and doff your heads when told to do so and rubber stamp the whole stinking process

  7. this was mentioned at a meeting cleaning and draining of 2 ponds and restocking with fish ….they didnt have the money to do it draper said ..then kenyon asked ian womersley to look into fundings ,,,, i have noticed that the smaller pond as been cleaned when yorkshire water were doing drain work apparently at park only thing i noticed was alge gone and eccles moat all clean …and i didnt see any yorkshire water vans there just the staff..so have they paid for it to be cleaned to them selfs

  8. Carol the removal of the Algae was done in house by HTC. That was one of the examples some of the councillors gave for keeping the big machinery.

  9. Algae disappears naturally in winter as far as I am aware. These idiots know nothing about maintaining fishing lakes. There may be pond weed that needs clearing at the correct time of year, but that’s the sort of thing which could be undertaken by ground works staff quite easily. I’m no expert either, but I’d put my knowledge far above theirs on this. There’s also an environment aspect to this, because I’m pretty sure that the existing fish stocks are historically infected with a thing called gill fluke. And affects the logistics of removing and restocking the lakes. It needs proper consultation with the environment agency. But then again, proper procedures seem to be alien to these people. I wouldn’t even trust them to stock the fish they would claim into the lakes either! Everything just smells like a potential scam here.

  10. Cathy you can’t remove the algy with any machinery so I don’t know where they said they could
    another lie
Who dreams these lies up because they are trying to make us all look stupid

  11. A spokes person for Boris and Gordon’s Aquatics, parent company of this newly formed but not yet registered business, said there’s nothing fishy going on!

  12. The setting up of a company is quite simple really. Whether it’s the genuine article is a different matter sometimes known as ghost or letterbox companies and in this case you can see the ghosts popping their heads through the letterbox honestly need anyone say anymore. I don’t know whether to laugh or cry.

  13. Flabbergasted- I’ve no idea how you go about removing algae.
It was on the agenda and you can view it live on FB 1.07 in where it says about quote and then work done in-house. Think it’s then further on about using machinery.

  14. Dealing with algae is more of a preventative measure than remedial one usually. But it can be removed, usually by chemical means. Mechanical removal is by skimming it from pond surface. Usual ways of preventing/treating algae is by use of aerators being installed and bales of barley straw being placed in areas round the pond. That releases anti algae chemicals naturally. Normal weed growth can be removed manually as normal routine in maintaining a healthy lake/pond, but it’s never all removed, and is essential in early summer at spawning time. Sometimes lakes can silt up badly, and that is a different matter and is tackled by mechanical means, by people who know what they are doing, not fly by night outfits. There’s a lot to consider about which way forward is the best way with the lakes at the water park, and the clueless lot currently in charge are not up to it obviously. Something smells fishy here, and it’s not coming from the lakes!

  15. Richard Cranium obviously from your comments you have some knowledge and insight of what requires doing here and how and when I thank you for that input it surely gives us an indication that any work done on those lakes should be done by a company with reputable and provable experience in that field. Back to due diligence and scrutiny HTC councillor’s before awarding any contract should as a matter of best practice for the precept payer request to see a genuine portfolio of work done in that field and for whom and when and for how many years they have been doing it. It really is as simple as that no company with zero experience or who just plans to sub let the work out should even get on the consideration list.

  16. It would take forever to skim the tops.of those lakes so they have not been doing that
It’s usual an algae algaecide that is used
Although barley straw Is the kinder option which they can use but will take longer
    As for dredging silt
There is a process you have to do before even continplating this due to protected wildlife
The costs of dredging would depend on which type they used
The most cheapest but the one that is actually better for the wildlife is where they bring it out and leave at the side to allow wildlife to go back in dredging need so be done by qualified and experienced company then they would have to pay someone to remove the silt at a later date
The reeds are needed to some extent for oxygenation but if left to over run can actually cause more harm than good so needs to be kept under control
They do not have the machinery to skim those ponds so again they are lying if they are using that as a good job we bought it because they have not done this
They will opt for the chemical option as its quicker and cheaper and let’s face it they are not environmentally friendly by the looks at the state of that park
Buried rubbish and dismembered trees and bushes, piles of crap everywhere

  17. Agreed. The park looks like no-one has bothered to look after it properly since about May 2019 🤔

  18. So it appears a “director” of the energy procurement company is a Mr Stephen Ball who runs alongside dear Gordon as also a director! With Jean as a “secretary”… The same Mr Ball was also appointed a director of another company within a month of this one in 2020! The exotically sounding Aruba Island Stables Ltd. Now no one is saying anything underhand may be happening here but the saying “got fingers in lots of pies” has never been more fitting…just saying !

  19. councilor jean eccles clearly believe that the eccles are entitled she stated at last meeting and i quote we deserve that gate with all we have to put up with also the pompus claim we pay more precept then you aimed at me as we pay high band chairman n clerk then protected her and wouldn’t allow me to answer it was/is recorded watch it she believes its eccles mannor and i had proof but was prevented from producing it
