Ferret was thinking to myself the other day about the day of the Venga Boys Concert at Hemsworth Water Park.

Although, Mr Jim Kenyon (Chair of Independent Hemsworth Town Council) has not yet released any details for arrangements on the day, Ferret has to assume with 8000 people descending on the Water Park that it will have to be closed to the public.

Ferret then got to thinking about security on the day…

Could they employ a large number of security personnel to stop YOUR access to the public Water Park?

Or

Do they intend to fence off the whole Water Park?

With the gate already installed at Councillor Eccles House, it would be like his own private estate…

Will we ever get a written response to our questions submitted to Independent Hemsworth Town Council and Mr Kenyon from the meeting held on 12 October 2021?

  1. Very well spotted Ferret, the waterpark does have open boundaries opposite the care home, all along Wakefield road and the full boundary length between Valehead park, right down passed what used to be the golf course to the railway bridge which then links up to the turkey farm footpath.
There are also public rights of way that go from, Ackworth, Fitzwilliam, Kinsley and Hemsworth additional to the main access routes. As this is an all ticket affair and locals with their children, who actually pay for the park will be prevented from enjoying their prized possession, it would not be unrealistic to assume “security guards” would be needed to be sited every two to three metres to prevent anyone without one of “Jimmy’s golden tickets” getting in. Also the main access road belongs to wmdc and I believe the other access belongs to the nursing home. The main access that goes by Cllrs. Eccles and Martin’s house is also an access point for the water authority as they have a pumping station there. So have wmdc, the water authority, care home and the now additional houses there agreed to a road closure while tickets are checked? The more thought that is given to this by any rational person, it seems you may be right, and to ensure only ” Jimmy’s golden ticket” holders are admitted it may well suddenly be suggested a perimeter fence is needed. This is outrageous if it becomes a reality, a fence bought and paid for by us, on the pretence of security to keep us out of our own recreational area. An area that appears to be under threat of disposal either by a direct sale to a Councillor who has long coveted this gem or worse still put in a trust which could let the trustees “dispose” of this our prized gem without any public involvement. A ready made, fenced off, country estate for the prospective lord of the manor.

  2. I’ve been wondering the same, presumably they will fence off the entire park rather than just the area where the stage etc will be or there would be little point ticketing if one could sit in the park at the other side of the fence and ‘enjoy’ the show.

I’ve not seen any plans but I can’t think of a space in the park that could hold a stage and 8000 people either.

  3. They’ll not need many security guards down there on the day because most of them coming will be on Zimmer frames or in wheelchairs that said the music will be very loud Cos most of them will have forgotten their hearing aids. Is the band booked in to stay at that care home it’d be ideal for them that right on the doorstep?

  4. You jest but no, they are staying in a hotel, paid for by us

  5. In my opinion ion I’m thinking non of this has been even thought about well not originally. I think this is something Kenyon wanted for himself. Have you seen his fb posts from when it was first thought of. He seems to love a bit of trashy euro pop. I mean Bengal boys are hardly headliners , they weren’t when they were releasing songs. More a warm up for the headliner or at best something for the little kids.
Kenyon realized he could get us the precept payers to pay for his own personal concert and then on top of that do his mates a favour in the process.
I’m wondering if he has mates in security, more favours.
Bit besides all that who actually feels excited about the vengas??
There are far more reputable bands and artists that I’m sure would be more interesting. At what age is this being aimed at? It definitely doesn’t cover the full demographic. I have kids who were growing up in the times of venga and they are definitely not rushing to attend.

  6. This makes Jim Kenyon sound like Kim Jong-un. The Peoples Republic of Hemsworth with their private 90’s pop group The Venga Boys.

  7. I asked a question at the start of the vengaboys, could people still use the lakeside on that day and answers was yes it’s open to the public …if they close and we have paid for the vengaboys out of the percept it would cause uproar ..those that pay for that place should be able to go as they feel fit x

  8.
