In a Leisure and Recreation Committee Meeting held on 13 June 2019, Independent Hemsworth Town Council made the following decision:

072 WATER PARK AND LAKESIDE CAFE

c) Possible gate at the Hoyle Mill Road entrance
Resolved that a gate be procured, subject to lawful compliance in respect of any potential highway matters.

For those that are not aware this entrance is next to Councillors Jean and Gordon Eccles’ home.

So, YOU paid for a gate to stop YOU the public entering the waterpark!

Will we ever get a written response to our questions submitted to Independent Hemsworth Town Council and Mr Kenyon from the meeting held on 12 October 2021?

  1. Where is the boundary between HTC and WMDC? I’m not sure why that gate has been put there but when the barrier is down, a councillor’s home is also protected. So we paid for the barrier which provides further security to a councillor who’s land should be on the WMDC side of the boundary or be privately owned.

  2. With reference to boundaries…look at the photo and see how the street lampost is enclosed inside the yard…has this always been the case ? Or has the wall been moved further into the entrance !

  3. You are correct, that the boundary is much further down the road. The lamp posts are the giveaway as these belong to WMDC. As Donald points out, it looks as though at some point Councillor Eccles has decided to increase the size of his property by encroaching on the land belonging to WMDC and in doing so has built his wall enclosing the lamp post in his now bigger yard.

  4. So now he has lighting in his yard paid for by everyone who pays council tax to WMDC and he has a gated entrance paid for by HTC precept payers! And both of them sit on council. I wonder if WMDC know about this.

  5. A bigger yard for the house must mean at least one thing….a much narrower entrance width to the waterpark ! 🤔

  6. I’ve just been told Cllr Eccles is the key holder for these gates, surely this can’t be right giving control of access to our waterpark to a private householder who just happens to be a councillor who wants the park for himself omg I hope this isn’t true
