Ferret thought that as we have a new and entitled Chair of Hemsworth Town Council and as Christmas is coming, it would be appropriate to give a brief résumé  of just a few of the highlights or lowlights of their time in public office in line with the Ferret tradition.
These are anything but fully inclusive or exhaustive.

On the twelth day of Eccles’Mess…

On being “elected” as Chair of Hemsworth Town Council, with the help of the Folletti abstention and the outgoing chair and mentor, Jim Kenyon’s 2nd and casting vote, Jean Eccles promised changes. Yet what did we get?

Her first priority was to grab with both hands the £2000 Chair of the council’s allowance and exit the building.

So much speed and enthusiasm was shown by Jean but then again money seems close to her heart.

It is a pity such diligence is not shown to all the matters that she is supposed to oversee.

Did you know that benches and tables were sold to Hemsworth Town Council for the lakeside by the Eccles, despite it not being in the company’s declared remit?

Ferret expects we got another bargain to accompany the lakeside café bar conversion, the diggers, and the catering van and of course the profits from the new bar that were going to finance everything for this new look council.

This new look council that Jean Eccles promised, showed its real face once again by the failure to clean up / paint the remembrance memorial at Kinsley.

Essential work that was done at the eleventh hour thanks to Maxine Hird and Peter Hardacre and other members of this community.

As for the missing band, what was the real problem Jean? Couldn’t the council afford one?

With your pure “Jeanius of accounting” perhaps you could have spent some of the money three times over, like Jim Kenyon taught you, it’ll be ok Alan won’t pick it up, in public anyway.

Better still maybe you could have used a little of that Chair’s allowance that you grabbed so quickly?
