Ferret is aware that the role of Deputy Town Clerk at Independent Hemsworth Town Council has been vacant now for some considerable amount of time.

The previous post holder was suspended from the position and subsequently dismissed.

Followers of Ferret may remember this resulted in the former employee taking Independent Hemsworth Town Council to an Employment Tribunal.

Despite being advised by their own legal team that they would lose this case; Mr Jim Kenyon and a number of his Independent colleagues including Mr Ian Womersley voted to defend the case – They lost.

Full details are here: https://hemsworthferret.co.uk/2021/09/19/mrs-s-holmes-v-hemsworth-town-council/

This is a position which is contained within the budget each year so having this vacant should have saved us around £60000 over this period of time.

Ferret finds it intriguing that Independent Hemsworth Town Council have left this position vacant for so long and wonders what contingency plans are in place to cover this essential role if Mr Draper is absent from work for any length of time, as there is no one else employed to be the financial signature that is required by law.

Ferret has to wonder; Does it suit Mr Draper to not have anyone working closely with him and if so why?

  1. Maybe wrong but didn’t they have a meeting about staff vacancies and state they couldn’t recruit for this position as there was no money available this year. Odd indeed for a permanent position already budgeted for.
