A Fitting Tribute to Her  Majesty

Ferret, along with others in our Township of Hemsworth, Kinsley and Fitzwilliam has been thinking as to what we could do to support and be part of the celebrations for Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee to be held on this June’s extended Bank Holiday.

Whether the Vengaboys tribute concert to Kenyon goes ahead or not, we can surely as a community put together some things more fitting and in keeping with her Majesty’s special day.

Some ideas are here, but there will be people who have already been thinking and planning what should actually take place and at what locations and even the times or the days of the holiday:

  • Street parties
  • Picnics in the park
  • Fun days
  • Fun fairs
  • Seaside jubilee event
  • Exhibitions
  • Tribute event to Her Majesty (not Vengaboys) local artistes, schools, musicians, dance groups, choirs etc.
  • Best jubilee song competition
  • Brass band jubilee concert
  • Jubilee themed baking competition
  • Lookalike competitions (at all ages of Her Majesty and perhaps Prince Philip?)

If the Vengaboys concert is cancelled, as some artistes are booked, couldn’t some be utilised to put on alternative performances, so as not to waste even more money? The Brass Band is one that comes straight to mind, along with the local artistes.

The annual seaside event could be brought forward, utilised and rebranded.

Well over to you the experts out there, we’ve got streets for parties, parks for events, community centres and the lakeside café for indoors.

Let us get together and coordinate a Platinum Jubilee celebration fit for our Queen, with or without our Council’s help…

  1. Could have a working party day finish all the outstanding jobs or will it be too big a job to complete in one day

  2. I agree Ferret, Kenyon can put his Vengas where the sun doesn’t shine.

  3. We have to do something that the community wants not what he (Kenyon) thinks we should want. All the above suggestions are brilliant.
My question is.. if he continues with his personal concert despite lack of interest, is he going to still have his marching bands, will the other performers still play at his concert? Will he still close roads? How much of an impact will it have on available venues and roads. I’m thinking that due to lack of attendance there won’t be much impact, but how keen will HTC be to allow events to take place on HTC run property and outdoor spaces. Just a few instant thoughts that may not have any real substance, but just wondered.

  4. Should arrange something in vale head park that’s the venue
