Saul Homes Limited were granted planning permission way back in 2008 to build 147 houses and 10 retirement apartments on the land of the former Sports Complex on Kirkby Road, in Hemsworth.

The contract to finalise the sale to Saul Construction Limited by Hemsworth Town Council was subsequently signed in 2011.

Due to the actions of the now Chair of Independent Hemsworth Town Council, Mr Jim Kenyon, work on the development has yet to begin.

As you will no doubt be aware, each year your Council Tax bill includes a payment which is made to Hemsworth Town Council – the Precept.

Ferret has taken a quick look at the additional money which the Town could have benefited from had this development been completed back in 2011.

157 additional homes would have paid between them £30000 – £35000

Now if they had paid this for the last ten years:

157 additional homes would have paid between them £300,000 – £350,000

…Now this got Ferret thinking…

Maybe if Mr Kenyon had not been so instrumental in stopping this development of much need housing; He may have been able to keep his 2019 Election Manifesto promise of reducing YOUR Precept by £200,000!
