In the Leisure and Recreation meeting held on 5 January 2023:
Item 6:
g) Pedalos – repair and/or replacement.
According to Alan Draper – Clerk, the Pedalos need to be replaced, as the one bloke whose been out to service them says so.
Later on in the same meeting Draper changed his mind and said they could be repaired but it would be a “bodge”.
Which then changed to not a “bodge” but a repair which may not last long.
He was then asked some simple questions:
How much to replace them Alan?
No idea.
How many do we have?
12.
The asset register for Hemsworth Town Council shows that in fact that there are 8 Pedalos (not 12 Alan) which were described as being “in average state of repair” in May 2022.
So they all need replacing at exactly the same time?
No reply.
How much money do they take?
No idea.
Councillor Donna Moran – We need to look at how much money they make before taking a decision and then budget for them next year, I mean in 2023 / 2024.
Ferret would certainly disagree on the first point. They are there to provide fun and enjoyment for our community who visit the park.
We must remember why the park was built in the first place and no it wasn’t just so Jean and Gordon Eccles had a nice back garden.
If anything, we should be looking at expanding the offerings and in particular looking at acquiring an accessible vessel which could be enjoyed by everyone.
As to how much they are used?
Prior to May 2019, a simple system had been implemented, where tickets had to be purchased at the Lakeside Café / Beach shop, so usage and more importantly revenue could be properly monitored.
Guess what Independent Hemsworth Cabal Town Council decided to do….
There appears to be a rift developing around costs, quotes, income, expenditure and this years budget and 23/24 budget,WHY.There is one very simple solution and due to the hard work of the good councillors they are in a position to vote and implement it until May.No more spending till May ,suspend spending, freeze spending, cap spending to ZERO that way come May and fingers crossed the total mismanagement and unprecedented spending and ludicrous wastage of our community money by the Independant lot will have come to an end.Stop their full refurbishment of their not the communities Lakeside pub and cafe, stop Plowing thousands of pounds into a place that’s not profitable YET.The public support the good councillors and support what they could achieve for the community and bring it back to what it should be a true community together hopefully in May when the self ,self, self lot have been removed.Time to really pull together and look to the future and hopefully there will be some money left in the pot to put back right everything that the Independant run HTC as destroyed over the last 4 disastrous years.Time for the community to pull together and VOTE the right councillors in.
Well said Julie. All this turning against each other is only destructive. We all want what is best for the community.
