Ferret can reveal that at the end of the meeting held on 13 January 2022 which was called for by residents of the Woodlands estate in relation to Independent Hemsworth Town Council’s blatant disregard of LP21, the negative impact this will have on our area and in particular the residents of the Woodlands estate, a show of hands was requested, seeking a vote of no confidence in Mr Jim Kenyon and Independent Hemsworth Town Council.
During the meeting Mr Jim Kenyon and Mr Ian Womersley once again lied to the residents over a number of issues relating to LP21. Further information can be read here:
Due to this, at the end of the meeting one of the residents asked for a show of hands to support a “vote of no confidence” in the Chair of Independent Hemsworth Town Council – Mr Jim Kenyon and the Town Council.
Ferret has been reliably informed that nearly everyone in the audience raised their hands to support the motion, however the Clerk – Mr Alan Draper dismissed this as unlawful and refused to act on their request for a “Parish Meeting” to be organised.
Undeterred, these residents set about gaining the required signatures for a Parish Meeting to be called.
What is a Parish Meeting?
A Parish Meeting is a meeting which can be called for by 6 members of the Township who are eligible to vote at an election.
A Parish Poll
A Poll may be demanded at any point during the meeting, by either the Chair or by 10 or one third of the residents in attendance.
The question must by worded in such a way that it has a yes or no answer.
The meeting must then vote on the question which will be used in the poll.
Following the vote, the Chair of the meeting has a duty to pass this onto the Returning Officer at Wakefield Council.
The Poll
This has to take place between 14 and 25 days after it has been demanded.
The Poll takes place in a similar way to a local election.
The “ballot paper” contains the question which was agreed at the Parish Meeting.
Conclusion
The outcome of the Poll is not legally binding, however if it concerns a “no confidence” in Hemsworth Town Council, it will clearly demonstrate the public disaffection.

Ferret can confirm, that 39 letters calling for a Parish Meeting were presented to Mr Draper on Thursday 10 February 2022.
Mr Draper now has to arrange this meeting in a timely manner, however, if he fails to do so the residents will take matters in their own hands and make the necessary arrangements.

Ferret fully expects the outcome of any Poll which takes place regarding “no confidence” in Mr Jim Kenyon and Independent Hemsworth Town Council to be a landslide victory for the good members of the Township.

Mr Jim Kenyon could save everyone the time and further cost to our Parish by simply resigning.

To clarify, the written request was submitted, with 39 letters of support. To date… No reply received. Let’s be clear, we have requested this meeting because of a total lack of confidence in the Town Council and its stewardship regarding WMD Plan 2036, particularly but not exclusively in relation to LP21. But, also we are constantly hearing the allegations made on here and in social media with regards to mismanagement of our precept money. We are not the ones making these allegations, but we want to hear what are Councilors and Chairman have to say regarding them. If there’s no substance to them… Great! But, the deafening silence and lack of a legal response only feeds the fires. That’s scary. If the Parish Meeting is agreed, then surely our questions can be fully answered. All we ask is that the Council acts with integrity and in our best interests, with full transparency. They certainly haven’t done that in relation to Plan 2036, and councilors couldn’t even say how many sites have been proposed in and around Hemsworth. That’s scary too.
Anyway, let’s see whether they agree to provide a venue for the Parish Meeting, and if they do whether they filly buster the agenda or fully answer our questions.

From the bits I have witnessed via the filming of said meetings, I’m afraid these so called town council meetings come across as unprofessional, a lack of understanding, a clear divide in the room where our “chosen councillors ” are trying to 1 up one another, speaking over each other. I have no faith in the shambles of this mob and the more I hear of monies spent on different things the biggest 1 being the bloody venga boys show leaves me speechless, and that in itself is a fete that very rarely happens!!!!
